Why do we still use business cards?
October 21st, 2008 | by geo |I always have this pile of business cards that I end up throwing away every few months. I meet people at meetings and conferences, scan their cards into my address book with my IRIS card scanner, and then I forever have their information in digital format. I do not need to keep a pile of business cards that are impossible to organize and a waste of space stashed in my desk drawers and filing cabinets.
Why do we not have a digital business card ?
Why can’t we store our business card/personal contact info in our mobile devices and quickly swap this info with anyone else carrying a mobile device? Is it that difficult to do? I don’t think so. You would just need a bluetooth or wi-fi connection and it’s done. We already have a standard address book format (vcard). Right?
Why does this product not exist or I am unaware of it? BTW - not talking about being able to do this via palm infrared, or nokia to nokia, I mean standard among all devices.

I get what you’re saying and I’m all for the GREEN movement but there’s something to be said for FACE time in this world, which is one reason business cards are the way they are. I think they also protect you in a way- with digital format, your info could be easily forwarded/sold to pretty much anyone.

Just wanted to let everyone know there is a green company out there that makes great digital business cards. They use your existing business card and make you a mobile business card with touch-to-dial phone numbers and live email & web links. You can send your digital card to anyone in the world in an instant right from your smartphone or computer to any smartphone or computer. Their mobile cards are quite dazzling on mobile. http://www.yourcardonmobile.com
