The power of the Internet - & Mobile
August 22nd, 2007 | by geo |This is a great keynote by Eric Schmidt - How the Internet and mobile is influencing our day to day lives, politics, and global economy.
Free nuggets:
Over 1 Billion Internet users
Over 2.5 Billion mobile users
Considering the power and influence the Internet, shouldn’t it be a free market? Do gov’t’s, ISP’s, & Business have the power to control the content..? They already control the bandwidth.
Should it be an open market…with open standards and devices? I 100% agree with Schmidt - the answer is YES> Let the free market pick the best products and services to survive, not the controlling forces that currently monitor what we can access, what equipment we can use, manipulating the whole value chain from end to end. (a bit extreme but there are good examples.) Bringing down the walled gardens and closed networks, limited equipment with controlled features is a must.
